How to Make the Most of Small Shop Spaces

Here are a Few Ways by Which You Can Make the Most of the Space in Your Shop

We’ve been part of concrete juggles for a while now and it just doesn’t seem to stop growing; it has reached the extent at which real estate now costs a bomb which is why many shop owners settle for fairly smaller spaces. However, that does not mean that one has to lose hope about setting it up in a way that’s appealing and efficient at the same time; here are a few ways in which you can achieve both aspects:

Go Vertical:

The first step to utilising space in a small shop would be to install furniture pieces that are big longitudinally. Cabinets of fairly tall heights and multiple shelves can be a plus since you can store various items in it, without letting it take up too much space. Dividing it into segments for various equipment, books, tools, etc. is a good option. Also, fitting lights into the ceiling of the topmost shelf can give a more aesthetic vibe and make the cabinet look a little fancier than it otherwise would. In order to reach the top, you can never go wrong with a sliding ladder since it is a convenient option to be pushed around from one corner to the other and is sleek enough to avoid taking up an excess amount of space.

Choose Laptops Over Monitors:

It is not unknown that a whole computer set takes up way more space than a laptop does. With different parts playing different roles (such as the CPU that acts as the brain of the computer, the monitor that is the screen and the mouse and keyboard which are used to instruct our computer on what to do), there is no denying that it does take up a whole lot of space. Apart from that, it is also difficult to move them around when one needs to conduct a task that may require more room. A laptop on the other hand is sleeker, tinier and has everything inbuilt, with the added advantage of the possibility of it being moved around easily when required. However, in case you feel more comfortable with the idea of implementing a computer in your shop, you can always make use of smart furniture. That means, having tables that have a separate section to put up your CPU in, or a sleek drawer under the table containing your keyboard and mouse can be beneficial when you need more space.

Illuminate To Re-Create!

The right kind of lighting can play a major role in making a place feel more spacious. Firstly, avoiding huge floor or table lamps is a good idea since they take up a lot of room. Ceiling lights are a better option because of their unique characteristic of being able to be fixed into the roof of your shop, thus giving you ample amount of space in comparison to the former two kinds. Brighter rooms look bigger and more spacious. So cool white lights are what you can opt for. Apart from that, a well-ventilated shop always helps avoid claustrophobia and seems more inviting and lively, than one that is enclosed amongst four walls which can seem very dull. Also, lights can be fixed on the base of cabinet shelves that may have products related to your business which you may want to sell. They can be used to highlight them and is a great way of drawing your customer’s attention to your products.

Hoarding Is Your Biggest Enemy!

Apart from the fact that you have limited space, hoarding is just not the best thing anyway. A weekly run through of items that you need and don’t, like getting rid of things that don’t work, throwing away paperwork (which can take up a ton of space over time) that’s unnecessary, getting rid of empty containers (such as empty ink cartridges, water bottles from water dispensers, exhausted pens, etc.) can help give you more space for things that are necessary. Note: Those items that can be recycled must be taken into consideration- for instance; some kinds of plastic can be recycled and made into things that are useful.

Decorate Smartly!

Concentrate on buying furniture and interiors that are a need and not a want. Implement furniture that can be used in multiple ways for various reasons. If you decide to buy a table for example, avoid those that are just a simple flat top with no drawers or cabinets, that’s just an extreme waste of space. A table with them can allow you to store certain things in them, without having to keep them in another part of the room thus giving you more space. Sliding windows and doors can be a perk in such situations since the ones that open inwards can make your shop seem too cramped and you might also avoid the possibility of others (especially customers) banging into them. If your shop is fairly small, then avoid too much decoration. Use the walls as a means of decoration by putting up a couple of paintings or photographs to make it look a little vibrant, but too much of that can also make it seem less spacious. Sure, your shop may be a small one but as they say, “necessity is the mother of invention”!
